ABOUT THE COURSE
Someone who seeks entry to the Register of Patent Agents in the United Kingdom (UK), would need to pass the UK Patent Agent Qualifying Examinations conducted by the Joint Examination Board (JEB). These examinations are held in the UK and in 2010 will also be held in Singapore.
Two preparatory courses are being offered to assist individuals preparing to sit and pass the following papers of the UK Patent Agent Qualifying Examinations:
(i) P2 - Patent Agent’s Practice and
(ii) P6 - Infringement and Validity of UK Patents.
The courses, conducted by qualified UK practitioners with first-hand experience in the setting & marking of the UK papers, will provide participants with:
(i) Exposure to the form, type and scope of the UK examinations
(ii) Expert guidance to develop examination techniques
(iii) An opportunity to review & practice past examination papers
(iv) Self-test levels of knowledge and skills in preparation for the examinations.
ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Ms. BERNI HAMBLETON
Berni is the founder of Sterling IP (www.sterlingip.co.uk). She is a Chartered UK Patent Agent, a European Patent Attorney & and is also a qualified Australian Patent & Trade Mark Attorney. She is a board member of the Joint Examining Board for UK Patent & Trademark Attorneys and is responsible for the Patent Practice Paper (P2), one of the four final exams, which UK patent agents must pass in order to become chartered.
Berni also tutors trainee patent attorneys on how to pass P2 and for a number of years has taught at the JDD Consultants’ revisions course. She has also worked for GlaxoSmithKline and did private practice for Davies Collison Cave in Sydney, Australia.
Dr. VICTORIA LOVATT
Victoria has many years’ experience in patent opposition and appeal practice before the European Patent Office and has successfully represented both Patentee and Opponent in proceedings. Victoria also has considerable experience in due diligence negotiations.
Victoria is a qualified UK and European Patent Attorney. Her technical qualifications include a Bachelor of Biochemistry and Biological Chemistry (Hons) degree from the University of Nottingham, UK and a PhD in Neuroimmunology from the University of Cambridge.
For a number of years, Victoria acted as an Examiner in the UK for the UK Patent Finals Paper P6, for Infringement and Validity, in which she was involved in the setting and marking of the examination papers for candidates seeking qualification as UK Chartered Patent Attorneys.
Prior to joining Ella Cheong Spruson & Ferguson, Victoria worked for several years as a senior patent attorney in a large pharmaceutical company in the UK, advising on all aspects of patents relating to vaccine, antibody and diagnostic technologies. Victoria also has four years experience working in a private practice patent agents firm in London.
